A tip for the child who grumbles about "reading".
We all use our reading skills every day, in work and in play. When you give your child opportunities to play games that require reading, you boost skills and confidence in a stress-free environment.
Check out board games.
There are lots of terrific board games that require reading. Reading the next clue or a mystery card or instructions for advancing in a game is excellent reading practice. Create a family game night! Your child will have so much fun spending time "playing" with you that they'll forget all about the fact that they're learning and reading.Tap into the computer.
Many computer games require reading. Look for educational games that require your child to print out answers and earn points. Anything computer-related that gives your child practice working with letters and words will positively impact their reading confidence and skill.Practice reading with word puzzles.
Another fun way to boost reading skills is to play crossword puzzles, as identifying words and reading clues are great reading practice.
